PRF Procedure

A Natural Aid for Accelerated Healing
The human body has incredible healing properties and our blood is a large part of that. One of such blood-based properties is platelet rich fibrin (PRF). PRF is remarkably rich in platelets, infection-fighting cells called leukocytes, and other powerful growth factors.
These blood platelets and growth factors perform several essential functions including blood clot formation and the facilitation of wound healing. Existing stem cells are stimulated to produce new host tissue as quickly as possible. This is why platelet rich fibrin is so effective in the post-treatment healing process.
Hospitals have long been using PRF to accelerate the body’s own healing process. Only recently have research and scientific studies confirmed the efficiency of PRF in dentistry.

How Is PRF Used in Dr. Berzin’s Practice?
No different than when you go for a blood test at your family doctor, a small amount of your own blood is drawn in vials pre-procedure. These vials are then placed in a centrifuge with very specific angles of rotation. The result is a mature blood clot with both powerful antibodies and bone-forming cells. This mature blood clot (PRF) enhances surgical results and decreases healing time. As the blood used is from the patient’s own body, disease transmission is not a factor.
Dr. Berzin will apply the PRF to the surgical area, think of it as a super Band-Aid. This will accelerate healing, minimize the negative effects of the inflammatory process and finally, decrease the amount of discomfort post-surgery.
