Benefits of Regular Dental Visits

Prevent Future Issues

There is more to visiting the dentist than just having your teeth cared for. A regular dental visit will enable your dentist to determine minor dental issues that could potentially turn into major ones in the long run. If that happens, then preventative care could be administered, sparing you of further tooth damage, more complicated dental issues, and not to mention, higher cost to repair or restore your tooth or gums.

Save Your Teeth

Sometimes, a tooth becomes so decayed that there is no other way to salvage it but to have it removed; otherwise, you will be putting your health at risk.  However, you must remember that you only have one set of adult teeth. Therefore, losing any one of them could significantly affect your oral health and your face shape's aesthetics.

Treat Chronic Bad Breath

Chronic bad breath, medically known as halitosis, is no ordinary morning or onion breath. It is a serious condition usually caused by inadequate oral hygiene, which you should not ignore or treat independently. Going to the dentist can help you track the ones causing it and have it fixed. In some cases, it may be a symptom of a more serious medical condition that needs to be cared for immediately.

Early Detection of Oral Cancer

Oral cancer is a grave threat to your health. Having regular dental checkups will enable you to detect early signs of oral cancer, and your doctors will be able to assess and plan the treatments early on. A regular visit to the dentist will allow you to have your gum tissues examined for signs of oral cancer, such as unusual bleeding, never healing sores or white spots on your gums.

Education On Proper Dental Hygiene

Not many people are informed about proper dental hygiene. For some people, they think that brushing at least once a day without flossing is enough. This practice may not sound like a severe problem, but this practice could lead to major dental issues eventually if you keep this up. That is why visiting your dentist is very important because he can curate and suggest a dental hygiene routine personalized for your needs after having had dental checkups.

Have A Good Smile

Having an attractive smile is a rather aesthetic but equally important benefit of regularly visiting the dentist. Anyone will agree that a beautiful smile is a significant boost in self-confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Do Dentists Do on the First Visit?

First visits are usually short and hardly involve any treatment. If anything, your dentist or dental hygienist will clean your teeth and assess them for fluoride. If the patient is a child, the dentist will educate the parents on adequately caring for their child's oral health, discussing dental development issues, and answering questions on possible treatments.

What Should I Expect on my First Visit?

Dr. Hakimi will perform a complete health evaluation. You will then have your teeth cleaned by our hygienist. After that, we will discuss with you and answer any questions regarding various treatment options and services.

What Is a General Dentist?

A general dentist acts as a primary dental care provider. He examines, diagnoses, treats, and manages your oral health care needs, including root canals, veneers, bridges, gum care, and preventive education.

Do General Dentists Do Extractions?

A dentist and an oral surgeon can both perform a tooth extraction. It is an outpatient procedure with local, general, or intravenous anesthesia. However, if underneath the teeth surface is broken or impacted, you may require a relatively more invasive procedure.

Why Is It Important to Go to the Dentist?

A regular dental visit means your dentist gets to keep your gums and teeth healthy. During your visit, he will examine your overall oral health and see if some areas could potentially become troublesome in the future. On the cleaning session, the hygienist or dentist will remove a buildup of plaque and tartar on your teeth, then polish them afterward.

How Long Can You Go Without Seeing a Dentist?

While adults could see a dentist at least once in two years, children should visit the dentist at least once a year because their teeth are more susceptible to faster decay. Those who only see their dentist once in two years should at least have excellent oral hygiene habits.

Can a Dentist Pull an Infected Tooth?

If the infected tooth can no longer be cured and restored, then yes, your dentist can pull the tooth. After that, he will drain the abscess to prevent you from getting an infection.

When Should You Visit a Dentist?

Your dentist will educate you on how to care for your child's teeth. However, as your child gets older, they should be able to have a dental checkup as often as the dentist prescribes. Most dentists recommend visiting every six months to examine the teeth for cavities and other dental issues.

Why do I Need Dental Exams?

Regular dental checkups allow your dentist to spot early signs of dental problems that could potentially be debilitating and costly if not treated early on. During your visit, a dental hygienist will start cleaning and ridding your teeth of plaque buildup. Your dentist will then probe the teeth surface and gum lines to see if there are spots and sores, mainly if you have not visited the dentist for a while.

What if I Am Too Afraid to Go to the Dentist?

Irrational as it may seem, we acknowledge and understand that some people's fear of going to the dentist is very real to them. Nevertheless, we advocate creating a space where patients feel comfortable and relaxed as much as possible. The comfort level you feel throughout the procedure will determine your level of trust with us in the long run. In any case, talk to your dentist about any fear or anxiety you have regarding dental health care so we may be able to serve you better.
